..Very close to the parish
church of Fajã Grande, on the island
of Flores, the anchorage is called
Argonauta, meaning “daring
navigator” in the Portuguese of
historians. This is the name given
to an old stately home, whose
origins date back at least to the
16th or 17th century, but which
underwent extensive restoration in
1929–1930, when it was equipped with
the first bathroom in Fajã
Grande and the island’s only
piano—which is now in Santa Cruz
museum. In 2026, the house will
celebrate its 36th anniversary,
continuing to welcome visitors to
Fajã Grande and Flores in peaceful
island comfort, regardless of their
origin or culture. Argonauta
currently offers 5 bedrooms with
private bathrooms.
Argonauta
pursues a traditional goal: to
guarantee intimate and traditional
high-Atlantic hospitality to our
guests, revealing to them the secret
maps of the island routes for land
or sea navigation.
