Guided Walks, drive with short walks, Boat Tours, Canyoning

Walking Tours are one of the services in which Casa Argonauta specializes, in collaboration with certified local guides, and have been offered since the company’s founding three and a half decades ago, in 1991. The routes are tailored to each client—that is, chosen by the client or suggested by us—based on the characteristics of each hiker, the trail itself, and the weather.

A car tour not only expands the range of scenery that new access roads provide but also ensures that travelers get the most out of their trip by combining history with the landscape. In the middle of the afternoon, instead of returning to Fajã Grande, passengers can be dropped off at the start of a trail so they can walk back home on their own, thus saving on a transfer.

For those who enjoy hiking on their own, there are two main trails: one starting in the north, leading to the Ponta Delgada lighthouse, and another starting in the south, from Lajedo; both end in Faja Grande. There is also a trail that circles the lakes and then descends the mountain to Faja Grande. There’s also a trail heading south: you start at the top of the village, head south, complete a loop, and return north, passing beneath the mountain and across the coastal plain, back to Faja Grande and ending at the natural pool formed by the waterfall, the Poço da Bachalau. You can take shuttle services from the trails’ starting points so that, when you arrive, you’ll already be home.

There is also a tour with transportation to Santa Cruz in the morning and a return trip from the island of Corvo; you’ll travel by boat, visit the eastern part with the cave and its waterfalls, and arrive at Corvo and its crater; it also includes a beautiful walk through the western part, descending toward Vilanova. You’ll depart in the afternoon and return to Santa Cruz, on the eastern side of Flores, and then head home on the return shuttle. There’s also the option to go canyoning and explore areas you’d never otherwise discover; Level 1 is fun and includes all the necessary equipment.
